Middlesbrough born, Malcolm joined the Royal Navy at 16, serving over 13 years and reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer (Russian Linguist and Communications Analyst). He served aboard HMS ARROW, HMS BEAVER and HMS COVENTRY and with the Royal Marines and US Navy. Whilst onboard HMS Beaver he took on the additional role of Beaver Scout Liaison Officer, organising ship visits for the Beaver Scout Organisation (for up to 5000 people at a time) in the UK and abroad including Gibraltar, Dubai and Kuwait. On leaving the RN, he became a self-employed Outplacement Consultant with British Coal Enterprise, seconded to Easington, Wearmouth and Ellington Collieries, helping to re-skill and re-train ex-miners to re-settle them into new jobs and careers (British Coal Enterprise had a success rate in excess of 90%). Then came a period of over 15 years managing recruitment businesses and training centres, followed by a very successful spell with the Department for Work and Pensions in Nottingham, taking on a key role introducing Lean Working, before leaving for a Business Support Management role. Malcolm is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI) and the Institute of Administrative Management (FInstAM).
